DAVID CARREON

ORCHESTRA MANAGER | ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

David’s introduction to the violin was in fact credit to his piano teacher, Ms Cheryl Mason, who had always believed in the importance of learning a second instrument. As a result, he began playing the violin at the age of four and has now completed his final year of a Bachelor of Performance degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He studied with Dr. Goetz Richter under the Ted and Susan Meller Memorial Scholarship. David will now undertake a Master’s degree commencing in September 2023 at the New England Conservatory under the tutelage of Professor Kristopher Tong.

As a soloist, David made his concerto debut at the age of 15, being invited to perform the first movement of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor with the Sydney Youth Orchestra Philharmonic. He has since then performed in a variety of competitions and eisteddfods around Australia. Most notably, he was the winner of the 2021 Sydney Conservatorium String Concerto Competition. He subsequently performed Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with the SCM Symphony Orchestra in September 2022. David has also been a prize winner/finalist in the Kendall National Violin Competition, Marcus Edwards Prize, 2MBS Fine Music’s ‘Young Virtuoso Award’, Dorcas McClean Scholarship and Sydney Eisteddfod Doctors Scholarship.

He has performed in masterclasses with Hilary Hahn, Midori Goto, Benjamin Beilman, Nicola Benedetti, Mark Gothoni and Maestro Ola Rudner. He has featured prominently in several orchestral and chamber programs over a number of years. Most recently, David’s string quartet was awarded the George Henderson Travellers Scholarship which saw them travel to Germany/Austria in January 2023 for intensive tutoring with Gregor Sigl, Oliver Willie and Rainer Schmidt.
