2024/2025 Concerto Competition (Winners Announced)

The Sydney Concert Orchestra is looking to promote young and emerging musicians. Delighted to support the emerging artists within Australia, Sydney Concert Orchestra will be selecting multiple winners to perform with our symphony orchestra throughout various opportunities in 2024 and 2025 while developing their performance skills and offering a platform to perform concertos. The concert dates will be confirmed following announcements.


Sydney Concert Orchestra | Scheherazade - One Thousand and One Nights

All musicians and instruments are welcomed, with the opportunity for multiple winners to be announced. Up to 3 musicians will be selected for each consort of instrumentation (e.g. 3 woodwind winners).


Applicants may perform their own preferred concerto, however any additional charges (scores/parts for music under copyright) may not be covered by the orchestra. All applications must follow General Guideline or risk disqualification. All applications and payments are final.


 

Important Dates:

Application (First Round) Deadline: 1st March 2024

Finalists Announcement: ~8th March 2024

Final Round/Winners Announcement: Early April 2024


General Guidelines:

  • Applicants must be under 30 years old, and residing in Australia.

  • All applicants must pay an application fee of $30.

  • We welcome musicians from ethnically diverse backgrounds, current and graduate students to participate.

  • First Round Submissions will require a video of the applicant performing the first movement of a selected concerto (repetiteur/accompanist not required but highly recommended).

  • Chosen applicants will be requested to perform the full concerto with accompanist/repetiteur in person for Final Round.

  • The Recommended Concerto List is guide only, musicians may select their own preferred concerto however any additional charges (scores/parts for music under copyright) may not be covered by the orchestra.

  • All concerts and in-person rounds will be performed in Sydney, Australia unless mentioned otherwise. Any travel or accommodation will not be covered.

  • For unusual works please check the availability of orchestral parts: if these cannot be obtained the orchestra reserves the right to request a change of work.

  • Video link permissions must be set to public or unlisted, any private or unviewable may result in disqualification.

  • Late entries may only be accepted at the discretion of the Secretary or Sydney Concert Orchestra Administrators.

  • All First Round applications to be submitted through 2024/2025 Concerto Competition Application Portal.

Prizes:

  • Winners will each receive an opportunity to perform a concerto with Sydney Concert Orchestra in our 2024 or 2025 Programs.

  • Finalists will each receive free tickets to all concerto performances.


 
 

How To Apply:


The application form will require the following:

  • Personal details.

  • Previous achievements & performances.

  • Link of video performance uploaded on online sharing platforms (YouTube, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.).

  • Application fee of $30.

  • Submissions are not anonymous.

  • Any details regarding competition may be subjected to change without notice.
